Bli med på en reise dypt inn i Yucatans jungel for å oppdage den gamle mayabyen Coba. Du får lære mer om mayafolkets gåtefulle kultur, klatre opp den store pyramiden, møte landsbyboere, svømme i en hellig cenote og besøke kolonibyen Valladolid. Valentina, en av lokalguidene våre, sier: "Coba var en gang en enorm by, hjem for rundt 50 000 mennesker på det meste. Coba betyr "ruglete vann" fordi byen lå på to luftige laguner. Den er ikke så kjent som Chichen Itza, så det er ofte litt roligere og mer intimt å bevege seg rundt her."

Vi ankommer Coba tidlig, slik at du kan utforske den i en kjøligere og mindre overfylt tid på dagen. Dette er et av de nylig utgravde stedene på Yucatanhalvøya, og var en gang en av mayas viktigste byer. Høydepunktene er den store pyramiden som er mer enn 40 meter høy og stelaer som viser de mektige kvinnelige lederne i det gamle Coba. Valentina legger til: "Cobas hovedpyramide er den største i regionen. Den er knutepunktet for gamle asfalterte "hvite veier" som går ut fra dette området. Det finnes mer enn 50 av disse veiene i og rundt Coba og de ble brukt til handel og kommunikasjon."

Neste stopp er et besøk til et mayasamfunn, der landsbyboere fortsatt lever uten rennende vann eller strøm. Du får møte lokalbefolkningen og lære mer om deres liv og tradisjoner.
