I de romerske, byzantinske og osmanniske imperier blev øerne brugt som eksilsteder og som klosterområde. I dag er kun 4 af de samlede 9 Prinseøer åbne for offentligheden. Båden bringer dig til den mest berømte og smukkeste af disse øer kaldet Büyükada. Navnet betyder Stor Ø, og dens størrelse er 5,4 km2 med 7.300 indbyggere. Bortset fra brandvæsenet, politi og ambulance er kun hestevogne og cykler tilladt her.
Man vil kunne se ruinen af villaen, hvor Trotskij levede i eksil mellem 1929 og 1933 og skrev sin selvbiografi og de tre bind på "Den Russiske Revolutions Historie" samt se Merkez Eczanesi - et apotek fra 1870, og nyde udsigten til Marmarahavet, Istanbul og øerne i nærheden.
