Att göra – Buckingham Palace
Buckingham Palace har fungerat som officiell residens i London för Storbritanniens monarker sedan 1837 och är idag monarkens administrativa huvudkontor. De 19 statliga rummen på palatset används regelbundet av den kungliga familjen för att underhålla gästerna vid deras statliga, ceremoniella och officiella besök i Storbritannien. Slottet var till en början Buckingham House för den första hertigen av Buckingham och Normanby 1703. Senare såldes det till George III och blev en privat reträtt för drottning Charlotte. Årtionden senare började kung George IV omfattande renoveringar som fortsatte att växa i omfattning och kostnad. År 1837 blev det det främsta kungliga residenset för drottning Victoria.
Sedan dess har slottet ofta varit i centrum för statliga evenemang och kunglig gästfrihet. Det överlevde också täta bombningar under andra världskriget, även om slottets kapell förstördes. Idag står det som en symbol för brittiska kungligheter och deras orubbliga engagemang för brittiska medborgare. Det är en populär plats att besöka, både för lokalbefolkningen och internationella resenärer.
