Stadens prestigefyllda La Lonja de la Seda (Silkesmuseum) ligger inrymd i Valencias Colegio del Arte Mayor de la Seda (Sidenkonst högskolan). Den är tillägnad att dokumentera och detaljera Valencias rika historia och arv av siden. Besök museet för att lära dig om hur siden först kom till Valencia, varför dess produktion blev framträdande och hur det tillverkas. Du kan också beundra museets stora samling av antika sidenvävstolar och plagg.
Sidenindustrin spelade en viktig roll i Valencias kommersiella verksamhet under flera århundraden. Valencias sidenindustri exploderade till en början på 1400-talet, med en stor del av befolkningen som sysselsattes i tillverkningen av det lyxiga materialet. Byggnaden som museet ligger i, Colegio del Arte Mayor de la Seda, har anor från 1400-talet och förklarades som ett nationellt historiskt monument 1981.
Inne i den historiska byggnaden rekommenderar vi att du besöker Hall of Fame (El Salón De La Fama), huvudrummet där institutionens ledare brukade träffas. Rummet har en imponerande takfresk av den välkände valencianske målaren José Vergara och ett genomarbetat keramiskt golv designat för att representera de fyra kontinenter som var kända vid den tiden. Du hittar också ett kapell (La Capilla) dekorerat med grönt och vitt kakel som skapar en optisk illusion på golvet, samt ett historiskt arkiv med dokument av stor betydelse för skrået och Valencias sidenhandelshistoria.
