Att göra – Muir Woods
Muir Woods nationalpark ligger norr om San Francisco. Nationalparken är känd för sina gigantiska sequoiasträd som är mer än tusen år gamla och upp till 76 meter höga. Det är en av de sista av de historiska jätteträden som finns kvar i Bay Area och därför skyddad som ett nationellt monument sedan 1908.
I parken kan du hitta 380 olika typer av växter och djur som vildkatter, sniglar, grårävar, rådjur och fjärilar. Följ en av de många vandringslederna för att promenera under de majestätiska träden. Du hittar totalt 6 km spår med olika rutter genom parken alla markerade på parkkartan. Vandringsleden varierar från enkla 30-minuters eller 1-timmars promenader tillgängliga för barnvagnar och rullstolar till längre vandringsleder på upp till 7-timmar som passerar genom de närliggande nationalparkerna.
Parken är uppkallad efter John Muir, en konversatör och den så kallade fadern till nationalparkerna. Marken har donerats till monumentet av William Kent som insisterade på att monumentet skulle bära Muirs namn. Du kan besöka Muir Woods nationalpark hela året under öppettiderna. Tänk på att husdjur inte är tillåtna inuti och planera ditt besök i förväg.
