Att göra – Kungliga palatset i Madrid
När Felipe V, den första av bourbon kungarna, ursprungligen utformade det kungliga palatset drömde han om en plats som skulle överträffa allt annat av sitt slag i Europa. Även om uppdraget inte lyckades (han dog innan planen var fullt realiserad), är det resulterande palatset fortfarande en barock skönhet av episka proportioner.
Byggd på resterna av en fästning som förstördes i en brand på julafton 1734, avslutades arbetet med det kungliga palatset i Madrid (Palacio Real de Madrid) år 1764 och har en lång historia som hem för spanska kungar. Carlos III var den förste att etablera sin bostad där och även idag är det den officiella bostaden för den spanska kungafamiljen. Även om familjen bor i Zarzuela palatset (Palacio de La Zarzuela) används palatset fortfarande för ceremonier och officiella evenemang.
Med 2800 överdådigliga rum, är ett besök på slottet en upplevelse i överflöd. Höjdpunkterna inkluderar sammetsväggarna i Salón del Trono (tronsalen), Salón de Gasparini (Gasparini rummet) med inläggningar och en 2-tons ljuskrona, den överdådiga festsalen, Royal Armory och apotek fylld med medicinburkar och kuriosa. Och missa inte vaktavlösningen varannan vecka (onsdag & lördag från kl 11:00). Palatset är också omgivet av utarbetade trädgårdar som Campo del Moro och Sabatini.
