Att göra – Hoover Dam
Hoover Dam, en gång känd som Boulder Dam, ligger i Black Canyon i Colorado River, mellan Nevada och Arizona. Uppkallad efter president Herbert Hoover, började byggandet av den välvda betongen 1931 och slutfördes 1936. Den används för ström, översvämningskontroll, vattenlagring och reglering samt rekreation.
Vid byggandet var Hoover-dammen världens högsta damm. Idag är det den näst högsta dammen i USA, efter Oroville Dam i norra Kalifornien. Människor från hela världen kom på besök under byggandet och en hel stad byggdes för att hysa arbetarna som var involverade i byggandet av det massiva kraftverket.
Hoover Dam är ett nationellt historiskt landmärke sedan 1984 och besöks av nästan sju miljoner människor varje år. Med sin hisnande utsikt och fascinerande inblick i den inblandade tekniken har det blivit ett extremt populärt turistmål.
