Att göra – TV-tornet i Berlin
Den enorma stålkulan i Berlins TV-torn (Fernsehturm) är det mest iögonfallande inslaget i stadens silhuett och en attraktion för mer än en miljon årliga besökare. Det har också några hemligheter.
TV-tornet innehåller en roterande restaurang och ett panoramagolv på cirka 200 m, stålkulan en produkt av paneuropeisk expertis. Fönstren kom från Belgien, hissarna och luftkonditioneringen från Sverige och stålbeklädnaden från västtyska ståltillverkaren Krupps. Endast 400 personer får gå in samtidigt och all mat transporteras upp till restaurangen från köket på marknivå.
När den först slutfördes överraskade stålkulan berlinerna och den kommunistiska ledaren Walter Ulbricht med en konstig effekt. I solljus visar den fördjupade utsidan av stålkulan ett lysande kors som lokalbefolkningen kallade "Påvens hämnd" på den ateistiska regeringen. Andra kallade tornet "Helliga Walter", medan en tidning från perioden kallade det "Tele-sparris." 2006 förvandlades bollen till en jätte silver-och-magenta fotboll för att fira fotbolls-VM.
Idag är det fortfarande ett fungerande TV-torn som sänder 60 olika radio- och TV-program.
