Beskrivelse

Opplev Olympia, fødestedet til de olympiske leker og en helligdom fra antikken, på en fascinerende dagstur fra Zakynthos. Vi drar over til fastlandet og tar en tur tilbake gjennom århundrene til antikkens Hellas storhetstid med en omvisning på dette historiske stedet og et besøk i det arkeologiske museet. Konstantina, en av våre lokalguider, sier: "Olympia har stått der i mer enn 2500 år og er fortsatt inspirerende som et must-stopp på vei til en personlig Odyssey. Å vandre rundt i ruinene og føle forbindelsen med fortiden er en spesiell følelse."

Etter å ha lagt til kai i Kyllini, kjører vi gjennom "Hellas' hage" – felt med tomater, meloner og bomull – til et av antikkens viktigste helligdommer. Sammen med en lisensiert Olympiaguide og vår egen lokale ekspert vil du lære om hvor de olympiske leker begynte i det 8. århundre f.Kr. Se restene av stadionet hvor 45 000 tilskuere heiet på sine favorittidrettsutøvere, inkludert målstreken og treningsstudioet ved vannkanten. I tillegg får du dele en iPad som gir ruinene liv og viser hvordan de en gang så ut.

Vi ser også ruinene av Heratempelet der den olympiske ilden ble tent og Zeustempelet der den utrolige statuen av Zeus en gang sto. Etterpå tar vi turen til det arkeologiske museet for å se samlingen av statuer og bronser. "Det er et møte med historie, arkeologi og kunst", sier Konstantina. Til slutt drar vi inn i Olympia by. Her får du tid på egen hånd til å spise lunsj og ta en tur i suvenirbutikkene.

A really smoothly planned and coordinated day with lots of modes of travel. I would have liked a longer browsing time in the museum as we missed some of the artefacts and would have liked to have gone back but the entrance was chained off. It was very busy with lots of cruise ship trips in, so we had to keep moving. Our guide dealt with it really well, but it was a shame she didn’t accompany us into the stadium as I’m sure she would have been able to answer all our questions. Great day though.

Feedback from our group was that it was a great day enjoyed by everyone even though it was a long tiring day. Quite expensive when paying for 6 especially as children over 12 charged adult price while TUi treat 17 year olds as children when booking the holiday?

I found the iPad difficult to use and ended up not using it. There was not enough clear direction on what bit to click on. However I thoroughly recommend this experience

It was known a storm was coming on Sunday but you went ahead with trip (we paid a lot of money ) it just rained all day it ruined what was going on to be a wonderful day in to a nightmare day , the only dry and warm bit was the museum. The guide was brilliant very informative and interesting .it was very uncomfortable having Wet shoes all day

Smuggler's Cove is a picture-postcard white pebble beach with a surprise – a shipwreck from an alleged smuggler who ran aground here in the early 80s. On this half-day boat trip, you'll cruise along the coast to see this famous spot, discover secret coves, swim and soak up the scenery. Kay, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Smuggler's Cove is also known as Shipwreck Beach, or “Navagio” in Greek. It's only accessible by boat, and it's one of the most photographed places in the whole of Greece.'After pick-up, enjoy a scenic drive to Porto Vromi – it takes up to 90 minutes – and hop on a boat towards Smuggler's Cove. You'll have half an hour or so to take in the vistas from the deck before the imposing white cliffs appear, sheltering the cove and its famous wreck. The 200-metre-high cliffs curve and swoop down behind the beach, dwarfing the shipwreck. Kay says, ‘To preserve the natural beauty of the area, instead of disembarking at Smuggler's cove, we'll pause here to admire the scenery and take a few Insta-perfect snaps.'Next, your captain will drop anchor at a nearby bay, and you'll have time to swim in the dazzling waters surrounded by Zante's coastal landscapes – don't forget your snorkel mask for spotting the colourful fish, coral and starfish here. Then, as we cruise back towards Porto Vromi, your captain will take you to a smooth, white-pebbled beach, a place so secret it doesn't even show up on Google. Cool off with a swim stop here and hear the story of the 'Poseidon's Face' – a rock formation believed to depict Poseidon, God of the sea – before setting off for the final leg back to shore.
