Beskrivelse

Tilbring dagen med en kjøretur gjennom de skogkledde Troodosfjellene, og opplev noen av Kypros' villeste landskap på denne turen utenfor allfarvei. Se vingårder, fossefall, fjellbyer som Lefkara, furuskoger og mye mer.

Vi starter dagen med et fotostopp ved den imponerende Dipotamosdemningen. Deretter går turen videre til den søvnige fjellandsbyen Lefkara, kjent for sine intrikate blonder og sølvtøy. Vi kjører litt off-piste inn i Mesa Potamos-skogen hvor du også kan delta på en valgfri fottur.

Når sulten melder seg, får vi servert en mezelunsj på en landsbytaverna. Til slutt går vi til en vakker foss i skogen med iskaldt vann som fosser ned 20 meter. Det blir også en stopp for vinsmaking, etterfulgt av et besøk til landsbyen Omodos, hvor du kan spasere gjennom trange gater og prøve kypriotisk kaffe i et lokalt "kafenion". En forfriskende avslutning på en actionfylt dag.

    Vi havde en rigtig dygtig guide. Han kunne fortælle rigtig meget omkring Cyperns flora og historie - hvad der er Cyperns vigtigste eksportområder og om vejrets betydning for øen. Han forstod at involvere hver enkelt passager og var meget opmærksom på vores alles velbefindende på turen.

    Man kom mange forskellige steder hen. Men en lang køretur hjem og det sidste stop var unødvendig ved en kirke som var lukket. God chauffør som var godt til at fortælle undervejs

    We loved the start of the day, with Louis. Unfortunately we moved to another Jeep because not enough people came. George Michael was however an excellent guide: excellent at showing us things and talking about stuff. We really wish we could have gone into churches or seen more of the villages though, instead of just being “there”. The food was great!! We were also put off a little when staff asked for tips; we may well have given one anyway but chose then not to.

    Der var helt overordnet for meget kørsel og for lidt tid til at vandre og opleve bjergene. De anvendte køretøjer gjorde det problematisk at se ud når man sad bagerst. De stop der var var for korte og gjorde det ikke muligt at udforske området. Der blev serveret frokost - men uden en forklaring på hvad man spiste og hvorfor det hedder en Mezefrokost. Det eneste gode stop var på vinsmagningen - her var en oplagt og god formidler. Anbefales at gøre turen kortere og stoppene længere.

On this adults-only tour, you'll see where a legend was born, visit the ruins of Kourion, venture to the village of Omodos and cap off the day with a wine tasting. Eva, one of our local guides, says of this excursion, ‘You'll wander through layers of history, culture and mythology.'You'll dive straight into the past at Kourion, one of the most impressive archaeological sites in Cyprus. Visit the Roman baths and amble into the site's centrepiece, the Greco-Roman theatre. Concerts are still held to this day. While the mosaics of the trio of excavated houses known as those of Eustolius, the Gladiators and Achilles are as impressive as when they were laid down. Then, we'll head for a local lunch in a family-run taverna before visiting the mountain-fringed village of Vouni, where you'll wander around skinny cobbled streets lined with Byzantine buildings. It's Eva's favourite village. She says,"the charm of the stone houses, the tranquillity and peace. It's as if it has sprung from a fairytale. I love dropping into one of the cafés and seeing locals have philosophical discussions, political arguments and a bit of gossip." To finish, there's a wine-tasting session, where you'll learn all about sweet commandaria wine – one of the oldest varieties in the world.

Andreas, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘The Tombs of the Kings offer us a valuable insight into ancient Mediterranean culture. There are very similar tombs in Alexandria, demonstrating the strong ties between the two cities in ancient times.'After a coffee pit-stop along the way, you'll stop by Kourion archaeological site to see landmarks such as the theatre – dating from the 2nd century BC – and the Agora. En route to Paphos, there's a photo stop at Petra tou Romiou – or Aphrodite's Rock – where, legend has it, the ancient Greek goddess of love and beauty emerged from the sea foam. Andreas says, ‘At Kourion, you see the ruined house of Eustolios and find out what life was like here before the city was destroyed by an earthquake in the 4th century.'Next, we'll head to ancient Paphos for a guided visit of the Tombs of the Kings, the House of Dionysos and its well-preserved mosaics. Andreas says, ‘The rock-hewn Tombs of the Kings were not actually intended for royalty, but instead the aristocracy and island governors were laid to rest here. The name reflects the sheer grandeur of the necropolis.' Later, you'll enjoy some free time to shop and wander around Paphos Harbour. Maybe you can stroll along the waterfront or grab a bite to eat at one of the many terrace cafés.
