Ting at foretage sig på Muir Woods
Muir Woods National Park ligger nord for San Francisco. Nationalparken er berømt for dens gigantiske Sequoia-træer, nogle mere end tusinde år gammel og op til 76 meter høje. Det er en af de sidste af de historiske rødskove i bugten og derfor beskyttet som et Nationalt Monument siden 1908.
I parken kan du finde 380 forskellige typer planter og dyr som los, snegle, grå ræve, hjort og sommerfugle. Følg en af de mange vandrestier for at slentre under de majestætiske træer. Du vil finde i alt 6 km med stier med forskellige ruter gennem parken, alle markeret på parkkortet. Stierne varierer fra nemme 30 minutter eller 1-times gåture, tilgængelige for barnevogne og kørestole, op til længere vandrestier på op til 7 timer, der passerer gennem de nærliggende nationalparker.
Parken er opkaldt efter John Muir, en konversationist og den såkaldte far til nationalparkerne. Landet er blevet doneret til monumentet af William Kent, der insisterede på, at monumentet skulle blive opkaldt efter Mr. Muir. Du kan besøge Muir Woods National Park hele året i åbningstiderne.
