Ting at foretage sig på Det Kongelige Palads i Madrid
Da Filip 5. af Spanien, den første af Bourbon-kongerne, udtænkte ideen om kongeslottet, drømte han om et sted, der skulle overgå alt andet af sin art i Europa. Selvom missionen ikke lykkedes (han døde, før det stod færdigt), så er paladset stadig en barokskønhed af episke proportioner.
Bygget ovenpå resterne af en fæstning ødelagt af en ildebrand Juleaften 1734 blev Det Kongelige Palads i Madrid (Palacio Real de Madrid) færdiggjort i 1764 og har en lang historie som hjem for de spanske konger. Karl 3. af Spanien var den første til at etablere et hjem der, og selv i dag er det officiel bolig for den spanske kongefamilie. Selvom familien bor på Zarzuela Slottet (Palacio de la Zarzuela), bruges Det Kongelige Palads stadig til ceremonier og officielle begivenheder.
Med sine 2800 overdådige værelser er et besøg på slottet et overflødighedshorn af rigdom. Højdepunkterne inkluderer det fløjlsbesatte Salón del Trono (Tronsalen), Salón de Gasparini (Gasparini-salen) med indlagte gulve og en 2 ton lysekrone, den overdådige spisesal, Det Kongelige Våbenkammer og Apotek fyldt med medicinglas og kuriositeter. Og gå ikke glip af de ugentlige vagtskifter (Onsdag og Lørdag fra kl.23). Paladset omkranses også af de udførlige haver Campo del Moro og Sabatini.
