Retken kuvaus

Taganana, joka on yksi Teneriffan ensimmäisistä asutuskeskuksista, on myös yksi saaren syrjäisimmistä kylistä. Tällä retkellä se on yksi kolmesta maisemaltaan kauniista paikasta, joissa vierailet Candelarian ja Anagan maaseutupuiston ohella. Jonay, yksi paikallisoppaistamme, kertoo: "Anagan luonnonpuisto, jonka Unescokin on listannut biosfäärialueeksi, on todella ainutlaatuinen. Siellä sijaitsee yksi maailman viimeisistä laurisilvametsistä. Tätä mystistä metsää koristavat ikivanhat laakeripuut, saniaiset, sammalet ja muut endeemiset kasvilajit."

Matkaat minibussilla enintään 30 hengen ryhmässä tutustumaan Teneriffan kätköihin. Aluksi suuntaat Tagananan kalastajakylään, jossa sokeripalan näköiset pikkutalot täplittävät mereen laskeutuvaa rinnettä, ja jonne pääsi 1960-luvulle asti vain kävellen tai veneellä. Nykyään mutkitteleva rannikkotie yhdistää kylän saaren muihin osiin. Seuraavaksi suuntaat Teneriffan uskonnolliseen keskukseen Candelariaan, jonka rannalla sijaitsevaan basilikaan mahtuu 5 000 henkeä.

Matka jatkuu pitkin rannikkotietä kohti Tagananan valkoiseksi kalkittua pikkukylää, jossa nautit lounaaksi paikallisia makuja autenttisessa ravintolassa. Iltapäivällä ajamme vuorten halki Anagan maaseutupuistoon, jonka rotkot huimaavat syvyydellään ja jonka rautakaudelta peräisin olevat metsät kuuluvat Euroopan vanhimpiin. Jonay lisää: "Anagan ikivanhat metsät tarjoavat turvapaikan harvinaisille kasvi- ja eläinlajeille, kuten kanarianpeipolle ja kanariankyyhkylle. Saarella elää useita ainutlaatuisia lajeja."

Millenial Dragon Tree Park Tenerife

This is your chance to set eyes on a living national monument – the drago milenario, or millennial dragon tree. It's one of the oldest living species in the world, and you can take a closer look at the Millenial Dragon Tree Park, which comes complete with a sustainable garden to stroll around, picnic area and views over Teide all around.Believed to be over 800 years old, the drago milenario tree deserves all the attention it gets. Set in a park in the north of Tenerife, near Icod de los Vinos, you'll not be able to take your eyes off the main attraction – it reaches an incredible 18 metres into the sky.Once you've taken in the majesty of the drago milenario tree, you'll find a garden that represents all the differing endemic species of Tenerife, as well as background views of the Teide in the distance. Pyramids of Güímar Ticket

There are lots of theories surrounding origin and age of the Pyramids of Güímar, which you'll get to see up close when you visit. Choose from different entry options, which can include the Poison Garden, exhibitions, museum, auditorium and outdoor routes.Founded by Norwegian researcher Thor Heyerdahl, the Pyramids of Güímar and Botanical Garden are a sight to behold. Six pyramids, made entirely of lava stone, still stand among exhibits and gardens. There are different ticket options to choose from, depending on your interests, including ‘Pyramids and much more' where you'll see the pyramids, museum, auditorium, outdoor routes and sustainable garden.Meanwhile the ‘Plants and poisons' ticket includes entry to the Canary Islands' only poisonous plant garden, and the ‘Colonizing Polynesia' ticket also gives you access to the exhibition on Easter Island.
