Retken kuvaus

Torni:
30-luvulla kasvava kaupunki rakensi toteeminsa Parco Sempionen puistoon. Gio Pontin suunnittelemaa tornia pidetään todellisena taideteoksena, jossa moderni arkkitehtuuri ja uudet tekniikat kohtaavat. Torni on ohut ja läpinäkyvä, eli todellinen arkkitehtoninen haaste, ja se pystytettiin ennätysajassa - vain kahdessa ja puolessa kuukaudessa! Torni rakennettiin vuonna 1933 viidennen Milanon Triennaalin yhteydessä. Milano järjestää joka kolmas vuosi ""yksinoikeudella Euroopassa"" kansainvälisen koriste-, teollisuus- ja modernin arkkitehtuurin näyttelyn - Milanon Triennaalin.

Brancan väliintulo:
Tornista tuli käyttökelvoton ja se poistettiin käytöstä vuonna 1972. Torni restauroitiin ja otettiin uudelleen käyttöön vuonna 2002 Fratelli Brancan toimesta, jonka mukaan torni sai myös nykyisen nimensä.

Tekniset tiedot:
Erikoisteräksestä valmistetuista, dalmine-putkista kootun tornin korkeus on 108,6 metriä. Päärakenne on pyramidin muotoinen, ja sen kuusikulmaiset reunan sivut yltävät kuuden metrin leveydeltä maahan. Sadan metrin korkeudessa kuusikulmio on edelleen 4,45 metriä. Erittäin pieni kartio näyttä melkein läpinäkyvältä. Nykypäivän moderni hissijärjestelmä mahdollistaa sisäänpääsyn Belvedere Clubiin - viisi henkilöä kerrallaan, alle minuutissa!

Ajatus:
Peruskorjauksen taustalla oli saada Milanon kaupunkiin ravintola, jossa voitaisiin järjestää myös tapahtumia. Branca halusi herätellä mielenkiintoa Milanoa kohtaan tällä ainutlaatuisella maamerkillä - uuden-, luovan-, ja innovatiivisuuden symbolilla - joka heijastaa tulevaisuuteen. Tornin pohjalla on puolipyöreä metallitukirakenne, joka on saanut inspiraationsa monumentaaliteoksen töistä, tarkoituksenaan edustaa tekniikan luonnollista kehitystä. Se muodostaa suunta-akselin, joka kunnioittaa puiston arkkitehtuurista selkeyttä (Palazzo dell' Arte, Castello, Arena ja Arco della Pace). Metallirakenne sijaitsee pohjan alapuolella, jolloin se ei häiritse nähtävyyttä visuaalisesti. Kaunis rakenne ja seinä, joka on lujaa läpinäkyvää kristallia, sallii esteteettömän näkymän tornista puistoon.
