Retken kuvaus

Kun Timanfayan kuusi vuotta kestäneet purkaukset päättyivät vuonna 1736, La Gerian maanviljelijät uskoivat, että heidän hedelmälliset maansa olivat kadonneet lopullisesti paksun tuhkakerroksen alle. Paikallisten perheiden oli kuitenkin tehtävä maasta jälleen tuottava, ja pelkällä kovalla työllä ja päättäväisyydellä he onnistuivat luomaan La Gerian viinitarhat.

Aloitat maisemallisella kävelykierroksella perheomisteisen Nacho Romeron yksityisillä viinitarhoilla, jotka on avattu yksinomaan National Geographicin vierailijoille.

Enjoyed the trip, information was very informative. Wine tasting was excellent May was very good at answering our questions and informing us about the different wines, added a little extra with a taste of the smoked goats cheese beautiful.

Die Tour war echt gut. Aber warum wurden wir nicht an unserem Hotel abgeholt. Wir waren die einzigen Gäste aus Playa Blanca. Und mussten zu Fuß eine viertel Stunde zu einem anderen Hotel gehen. Die Guide war wirklich gut ?? präpariert und das Programm war wirklich exzellent.

Nat Geo Day Tour: La Geria, Vineyards that Sprouted from Fire

When Timanfaya's six long years of eruptions ceased in 1736, the farmers of La Geria believed their fertile lands were lost forever under a thick layer of ash. But the local families needed to make the land productive again, and through sheer hard work and determination, they succeeded in creating the vineyards of La Geria. You'll start off with a scenic walk, following trails through private vineyards belonging to the family-owned bodega of Nacho Romero, opened exclusively for National Geographic travellers. As you soak up the unique character of these landscapes where vineyards are surrounded by volcanoes, the owner will explain how the layer of volcanic ash, known locally as ‘picón,' has shaped their cultivation methods, which are unique in the world. If you are lucky enough to find them ripe, you might even get to pick grapes straight from the vine as you hear Nacho or his wife Luisa, both winemakers, talk about the characteristics of volcanic wine. Back at the bodega after the walk, you'll be able to sample one of the artisanal wines that Nacho and Luisa make in their home winery. Next, you'll head to Bodega La Geria – another important component of the ecological wine making movement. The winemaker himself will show you around the bodega. Find out the secrets of the hollows, called ‘zocos' which shelter the vines from the wind, and discover the different varieties of grapes that thrive in Lanzarote's volcanic terroir. To finish, savour a tasting of one of the estate's renowned wines with local cheese and crackers.

Timanfaya volcanic tour

This half-day tour is Lanzarote in a nutshell. You'll call in at El Golfo lagoon, journey through Timanfaya National Park and visit the Salinas de Janubio. We'll even throw in a wine tasting session to round off the tour.First up, you'll visit the waters of El Golfo - it's emerald waters have starred in many a Hollywood film over the years. But that's just an appetiser for the main event – the visit to Timanfaya National Park. Next up is the Salinas de Janubio salt flats where traditional methods are still in use. Seawater enters shallow basins, evaporates under the sun, and workers harvest the salt manually. These salt flats are a haven for migratory and coastal bird species.Thanks to its otherworldly natural landscape, Lanzarote was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1993. And the star of the show here is undoubtedly Timanfaya National Park. Follow the famous Lunar Route and explore lava fields, volcano craters and steaming geysers as you learn about why the whole island has achieved this special UNESCO-listed status. Cesar Manrique’s Lanzarote tour with Cactus Garden and LagOmar

With its vine-laden lava fields, exuberant architecture and otherworldly landscapes, Lanzarote looks and feels like something from a sci-fi movie set. This exclusive half-day tour takes in the Cesar Manrique Foundation and his Cactus Garden, followed by a visit to LagOmar. Here, vines are shielded from the winds by horseshoe-shaped stone walls, while the humidity retained by the ash helps them grow in this harsh climate. Enjoy a guided tour of the winery and taste some of its prized Malvasia wines.Next, nestled at the base of the Juan Bello volcano, you'll visit Bodega Los Bermejos. This boutique winery is famed for its artisanal approach, crafting exceptional wines from indigenous grape varieties like Malvasía Volcánica and Diego. Festive evening tour of Arrecife Christmas Fair and markets

Despite the balmy temperatures, you'll feel fully festive on this evening trip to Navilan, Arrecife's Christmas fair, complete with rides, market stalls and cozy fire pits. Surround yourself with the festive magic of the fair and jingle your way through the market – the ultimate gift under your Christmas palm tree.”Whether you're after an adrenaline rush on the rollercoaster, or prefer the pace of a classic carousel, there's something for all ages and appetites, and you'll have plenty of time to explore it all. Ride the 32-meter-high Ferris wheel to get your bearings and nab a picture of Arrecife bathed in the glow of twinkling Christmas lights. There's a snowy slope for sledging down, an ever-snowing igloo and an ice-rink where you can show off your triple axel – or just have a shuffle around with the crowd. With the scent of roasted chestnuts in the air, follow your nose to the traditional Christmas market. 22 stalls are brimming with festive favourites, from handmade crafts, decorations and gifts to locally produced cheeses, jams and wines. Lobos Island and Dolphin Watching Trip

Isla de Lobos, or island of the wolves, is as remote and wild as they come – and your destination for the day on this rejuvenating boat trip. You'll disembark at Lobos Island where the time's yours to swim and go in search of peace and tranquillity. During the journey to and from Lanzarote, keep an eye on the dolphins, flying fish and whales that may join us for the ride.You'll set sail from Puerto del Carmen, with Lobos Island in your sights. After about an hour and a half at sea, seeking out signs of activity for dolphins and whales, you'll land on the island's idyllic shores. White sand dunes shimmer beneath the clear seas, inviting you to swim and explore this protected natural area.Head off on one of the paths, or keep to the shores doing as much, or as little, as you like. Then, after about two hours, you'll board the jet boat once more to skirt your way back to Lanzarote – keeping watch for the flying fish that often put on a show.
