Berliinin televisiotorni (Fernsehturm) ja sen valtava teräspallo näkyy kaupungin horisontissa ja vetää puoleensa yli miljoona vierailijaa joka vuosi. Tornilla on myös muutama salaisuus.
Pyörivä näköalatasanne ja ravintola sijaitsee 204 metrin korkeudessa. Teräspallo on yleiseurooppalaisen ammattitaidon tuotos. Ikkunat tulivat Belgiasta, hissit ja ilmastointilaitteet Ruotsista ja teräsverhoilu on saksalaisen teräksenvalmistajan Kruppsin käsialaa. Sisälle mahtuu kerralla 400 vierailijaa ja ravintolassa tarjoiltava ruoka valmistetaan tornin juurella sijaitsevassa keittiössä.
Tornin valmistuttua pallo yllätti berliiniläiset, sekä kommunistijohtaja Walter Ulbrichtin odottamattomalla tavalla. Auringon heijastuessa, pallon ulkopuolelle muodostuu loistava risti, jota ateistisen hallinnon johtamat paikalliset alkoivat kutsua ”Paavin kostoksi”. Toinen lempinimi tornille on ”St. Walter”. Vuonna 2006 pallo muutettiin valtavaksi, hopean ja purppuran värein maalatuksi jalkapalloksi, jalkakallon maailmanmestaruuskilpailujen kunniaksi.
Torni toimii edelleen televisiotornina, joka lähettää 60 erilaista radio- ja televisio-ohjelmaa.
